New head coach takes over for WHS girls’ soccer

Tomlinson, no stranger in Waseca, has high hopes for 2022 Bluejays
“I think that, with a consistently positive attitude, we can achieve great things."— Kyle Tomlinson
Don't ask first-year Waseca High School girls' soccer head coach Kyle Tomlinson about win-loss projections this season.
He'll give you a short answer.
"I don't have any particular expectations with regards to results," said Tomlinson.
How the Bluejays approach the game is another story.
"I expect us to work hard for every single ball throughout the season," explained Tomlinson. "If we do that consistently, then I have total confidence in these girls' ability to succeed."
The Bluejays, who compete in Section 1AA, finished 12-5-0 overall last year and 11-1 in the Big South Conference. Their last appearance in the section championship game was in 2017.
The 2022 Bluejays, according to Tomlinson, should be a fun team to watch. They're hard-working, have a balanced squad with plenty of talent, with the potential to be very successful despite changes to their coaching staff and style of play.
"We have a hard working squad who have come into the preseason with open minds and a strong work ethic," said Tomlinson. "There are some changes this season with our coaching staff and our style of play, and the girls have adapted fantastically. We are blessed with a balanced squad and we have players all over the field who can score goals, keep the opposition out, and control games."
The Bluejays are not, however, blessed with big numbers.
"We are a relatively small squad," said Tomlinson. "So our players are going to have to work hard to remain fit throughout the season. However, the players are working hard in preseason to get fit and conditioned for our upcoming season, so I am confident that we will succeed."
The key to success for the 2022 Bluejays? Never give up.
"Perseverance is going to be the key for our team," said Tomlinson. "We have had an intense start to the season and the games come quick and fast. With our smaller squad size, our players need to be able to keep up with the demands of the schedule and stick with our new style of play."
Tomlinson, assisted by Phil Bulfer, Larry Nydegger and Michael Osweiler, has been impressed by what he's seen from the Bluejays so far.
"This is my first year with the girls' program here at Waseca after a few years assisting with the boys," he said. "There have been a lot of changes that the girls have had to face and the season is coming fast, but I have been blown away by the effort, talent and determination of the girls so far. I am massively excited to get this season underway and see how the girls adapt to our new playing style and I think that, with a consistently positive attitude, we can achieve great things this season!"
