The Waldorf city council convened the evening of Monday, Nov. 11. The council first wanted to say “Happy Veterans Day and Happy Thanksgiving.” A representative for David Leichtman, who is a tile man, would like to open a tile business on a lot owned by Ms. Mueller. This needs to be opened up for a public hearing first to consider rezoning as commercial.
The township 2026-2028 contracts are due, the new amount is $350 per section for one year, second year will be $350 per section plus the cost-of-living increase, year three will also be $350, plus cost-of-living increase. The Veterans Memorial Park is finished with construction until next spring. Charlie Barnes, however, has purchased a WavLink electronic device that will control the lights online when he installs them. The unit was $120, and the gazebo’s lights will need two of them when they finish wiring next year. The council has separated all personal emails and diverted them to their city accounts, for example the mayor’s former email was robwilkening@ewef.us. It is now mayor@cityofwaldorf.com.
The city website needs to be compliant with Americans With Disabilities (ADA) standards by the end of 2026. The upgrade will entail a one-time cost of about $2,500. The Waldorf Days Committee will charge vendors $25 and food vendors $50, with proceeds going to the ball field. The band for the day will be Los T’s. Mayor Wilkening said that the Christmas lights will be hung as soon as Ron wants to get started.
After letters have been sent to the creamery for that area to be cleaned up, since that has not happened the council will now involve the county Sheriff for enforcement. There was one tree in town that was struck by lightning and started on fire; the tree was put out and the person received a standard Fire Dept bill for $750 and they don’t think they should be charged.
Insurance is being inquired about for either a full payment of partial. Fire dept staff stated this is the standard fire call fee.
