Ladies Auxiliary crock pot lunch well attended

The Waseca American Legion post 228 held its annual hot dish luncheon Friday, Oct. 24. This event was made possible thanks to the Legion’s Ladies Auxiliary volunteers, bakers and cooks. When asked how many lunches there have been, Mary Jo Knudson said, “I’m not sure, I would guess 10, or just shy of that.”

There were at least 10 crock pots lined up along the serving counter in the ballroom section of the Legion hall. Four long tables were dolled up with placemats, cutlery, coffee cups and napkins. Numerous crock pots and empty serving containers stood on a table near the kitchen door. Deb Tappe said, “As of 12:30 p.m. we’ve had 95 people show up today, but we’re open till 1 p.m. so we’re not done just yet.”

A group of 25 designated women took care of the main courses including casseroles and crock pot dishes. There were an additional 10 members who made the desserts, bars, cookies or muffins, all volunteers and all members of the Ladies Auxiliary. One of the dishes with a sauerkraut base was made by Connie Ockwig. Also calling to diners were Jeanne Sexton’s chicken tater tot hotdish, Cheryl Frear’s chicken and wild rice, Cindy Dickie’s chicken pot pie,  Le Ann Cory’s tuna casserole, Deb Tappe’s pizza hotdish, Cora H.’s home hotdish, Judi Water with her million-dollar bacon and beans, Joan Earle with her scallop potatoes and ham. Leann Sutleif brought goulash, Cindy Dickie had tater tot hotdish, Cheryl Brummond had wild rice, Donna Gehring had cooked squash, Diane Welander had cheeseburger hotdish, Marilyn Marsh had rice, Sandy Matz has scallop potatoes with ham, Nancy Kelling’s own version of scalloped potatoes, Mary Halverson’s own version of tater tot hotdish and Connie Hoehn’s lasagna.

For dessert Joan Dehn had German chocolate cake, Penny Anderson’s chocolate revel, Karla S.’s sugar cookie bars, Janis Mettler’s pumpkin bars, Judi Waters lemon bars, Shirley Bluhm toffee bars, Jen Graupman’s chocolate peanut butter Krispie bars, Patty C. with her yellow cake. They ran a little low towards the end, but the 200 members of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary were happy they could help. Money raised for the day benefits the auxiliary, which stated its gratitude to Waseca American Legion post 228 for use of their kitchen and dining space.
