Thu, 10/30/2025 - 12:20am
During the October 23 Waseca school board meeting, Superintendent Eric Hudspith gave the board a brief update on the district’s strategic plan. Under Learning For All, fall assessment data shows growth, demonstrating the effectiveness of both instructional strategies and interventions. He said staff listening sessions are underway where feedback is gathered to improve processes and programming. The district is also piloting a new math curriculum, and will implement it in the fall of 2026. Waseca continues to implement Minnesota’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MnMTSS) Framework to ensure academic success.
Hudspith also said the district is part of a steering committee working to implement an additional robotics curriculum as well as partnering with Perkins funding to identify career and technical pathways for students.
Community engagement practices for the school district for the purpose of creating opportunities for families and community members to engage with and provide feedback include the college and career fair, school finance learning sessions, website improvement planning, and a communications survey.
Under the category of “efficient and effective use of resources,” Hudspith spoke of developing comprehensive strategies for the maintenance and improvement of buildings, and allocating staff to the highest need areas to support improvement. Sustainable budget planning and refinancing bonds to reduce debt service costs are also being examined.
The category of “ensuring safe and welcoming environments” includes the current focus areas of a building conditions assessment, grounds maintenance, and winter weather planning.
The board approved the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school year calendars. Other action items addressed were the approval of the resolution establishing parameters for bond refunding, and the approvals for both the 2025-2027 agreements with independent contract employees and the 2026-2029 superintendent contract.
The next work session is Nov. 6 and the next regular meeting is Nov. 20.
