SINGING FOR GOOD - The Waseca Chorale will be debuting two of the numbers that will be part of the group's holiday concert during a guest appearance Sunday, Oct. 26 at Christ Community Church in Waseca. The majority of the concert will be presented by the Woodbury Orchestra and Choir, a volunteer group which performs to benefit food shelves. All proceeds from the concert will benefit the Waseca Area Food Shelf. Here, we see the Chorale during its 2024 Holiday concert.  Pioneer photo by Deb Bently

The Waseca Chorale will be debuting two of the numbers that will be included in the group’s Nov. 30 holiday concert during a special “Rhythms of Life” performance scheduled at Christ Community Church in Waseca at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26.

The 55-member local group will present “Nata Lux” and “Field of White.”

There are no tickets or admission fee for the concert; all free-will donations given that day will go directly to support the Waseca Area Food Shelf.

The majority of the concert will be performed by the Woodbury Chorus and Orchestra, a group of Twin Cities area vocalists and instrumentalists who give between 10 and 12 concerts each year in Minnesota and western Wisconsin with the dual goals of helping people in need while also offering quality music to diverse audiences.

Oct. 26 will be the second time the Waseca Chorale has contributed to a Woodbury concert.

Chorale executive committee members recall being very pleased with being part of a performance about two years ago. That concert, too, benefitted the food shelf.

“Since Waseca has no community orchestra, it’s a real opportunity to hear a group of adults performing orchestral music,” relates Chorale director John Hoehn.

Along with that, “Everyone enjoyed it,” remembers Al Judd. “We got to hear some beautiful music, and it was an opportunity to sing.”

Furthermore, “We all have a soft spot in our hearts for the local food shelf,” observes Deb Vetter. “We know it helps people from all over the area.”

Judd, who has served on the executive board of the food shelf, says he knows the operation is experiencing rising need, and is searching for assistance from every facet of the county-wide community.

“We hope many, many people come,” says Chorale director Deb Wantoch Yess. “It should be a beautiful, uplifting performance, all for the sake of a good cause.”

Chorale members began practicing the two holiday pieces already in September. The group’s annual holiday concert will be at Sacred Heart Church at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30.
