History Center reviews past, plans for future

Two important meetings took place last week at the Waseca County Historical Society, according to executive director Amy Danielson.
One was the 2024 annual meeting attended by about 30 people. The event celebrated the society’s accomplishments for the completed year, reviewed its financial status and took note of contributions made by organizations and individuals. Danielson stated in her report, “As guardians of Waseca County’s history, we collect, preserve, and share the stories of our past–sparking curiosity and connection for generations to come. Together, we are not only preserving history–we are making it.”
Long-serving executive committee members Dale Groskreutz and Marty Buum were acknowledged, as were Diane Beckmann, who was last year’s committee chair; Dawn Halgren, last year’s treasurer; and committee member Gregg Johnson, who completed his term.
The 2025 executive committee includes Carol Raimann, chair; Marty Buum, vice chair; Dale Groskreutz, treasurer; and Linda Finley, secretary.
Also held recently at the WCHS was a leadership team meeting during which staff and select executive board members strategized future plans across the next decade.
“Celebrating Waseca County’s rich history together” was proposed as the motto for the organization and its future activities.
According to Danielson, long-term goals included continuing to preserve history while simultaneously working toward increased community involvement that draws in people across all age groups. This would include growing the number of WCHS members, the percentage of the community which participates in organization events, and the number of volunteers and contributors.
