To wrap up the Fourth of July weekend, the Pleasant Grove Pizza Farm presented two musicians from 1 to 7 p.m.the evening of Sunday, July 6. Performing first was Todd Michael Jameson, followed by Fred the Bear.
Prior to the show, Jameson, a solo act, had a few minutes to talk as he set up his equipment. Regarding his playlist for the night, he said, “I play rock and country covers mostly, I also have some originals, but I don’t know if those will go into the rotation tonight. I play based on who’s in the crowd and what people ask for when requests are made.” He said he likes playing Pleasant Grove, “Because when this place gets going, there can be quite a few people here. I’ll pull in at least a hundred people every time I come. I’d like to play here more than once a year, but later in the summer I get pressed for time.”
On Sunday he got to play his music on stage in the shade. With 80 degrees as the high, the heat didn’t seem to be bothering him. Since he didn’t yet know what the crowd would want, he said, “I can play Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings, classic country or I can do way modern. I focus a lot on 70s rock as well. This summer has been busy, up to five or six shows per week. Last week was Hudson, Wisconsin on Tuesday; Maple Grove on Thursday; Wheeler, Wisconsin on Friday; Lake Mills, Iowa on Saturday and here today.”
Currently a resident of Champlain, Minnesota, Jameson is originally from Albert Lea, “My mother currently lives in Ellendale, so I go through there quite a bit. Right now, I’m putting on 220 shows per year.” He was asked about any big names he’s played with recently and he replied, “In January, I opened for Don Felder at the Treasure Island Resort and Casino; we had a crowd of 2000 people there, that was a great show.” Last year at Rockfest in Wisconsin he played with Mike Tramp from the 80s glam band, White Lion.
Jameson got his game face on as people began showing up with lawn chairs and picnic blankets. The pizza farm staff manning the woodfired stove were assembling their dinner orders; the bartenders were mixing drinks.
