Difficult time slowing down

There are some kids that just struggle to sit still, have you ever noticed that?  I was watching a child starting to learn how to run over the past few weeks.  This child is talented at using their whole body to run.  Not just quickly moving their feet, but arms pumping and shoulders rolling.  Their whole body in use to move as quickly as their balance will allow them to get from one spot to another.
I had the same thing happen to my kids this week, they each had something exciting to share with me. Their bodies wouldn’t slow down, they moved quickly almost vibrating with the excitement they had to let out.  I got to hear about what they were looking forward to and as they spoke their bodies calmed.
There are some things that I get excited about, while others make me nervous.  Those nervous things that I struggle with revolve around safety and security.  How safe is my family, are they secure in their wellbeing? What can I do to help them fell protected and cared for? In this nervousness my body become restless, sleep eludes me and I look for solutions.
There comes a point where all this nervous energy or excitement needs to be resolved.  How do you settle your mind? What have you found that works for you? Do you pray? Do you worship? Do you fellowship with others to share the load? Do you have your own technique?
There comes a point for me when my emotions overcome my logic and I need to return to that place of peace.  There are a few passages that Grandma would share with me when things got to be too much and I go back to those passages even today.  Grandma would share the passage and Grandpa would hammer it in over the day.
In Psalms 46:10 Grandma would share:
10 "Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth."
And Grandpa would reiterate through the day, “Be still!”  Our thoughts would be drawn to the passage as the day progressed and the stresses of the day would ebb and flow.  They would lessen the more I relied upon God to work things out for me, but it took me recognizing that God was God.
Every stress and struggle I had would be nothing once I realized that eternal nature of God, His character of love for me and the hope I held in His will for my life.  It has never been easy, but it has always been good.
God is good, He is worthy of praise.  When the emotions of life overwhelm us, let us turn to Him.  Let us point to what He has done, and recognize that He can and will do it again.  Let us be still and know, in our hearts, that He is God.
