Milbrath to run for county seat
Tue, 07/25/2023 - 1:47pm
Former Waseca County Sheriff Brad Milbrath has announced his intent to run for the seat on the Waseca County Board of Commissioners left vacant by the May 30 death of Blair Nelson.
A special election has been arranged for November during which the residents of County District 3 will be asked to vote on Nelson’s successor. According to Tammy Spooner, county director of property and election services, official filing for the election will be open from August 15 to 29. If two or fewer candidates choose to run, the results from the Nov. 7 election will select the winner; if three or more candidates file, November’s will be a primary, with the final vote taking place Feb. 13.
Only residents of wards 1A and 2A, the roughly 3,700 people occupying the northernmost third of the city of Waseca, will be eligible to file for the position or vote in the election.
Milbrath announced his intent to run this week, citing his 24 years of experience as the county’s chief deputy and then sheriff. Having left public service less than a year ago, he states that he has extensive knowledge of county operations, policies and procedures, and that he understands the division of responsibilities within the departments.
“This knowledge,” he said, “will help me move forward as effectively as possible with current county board business.”
He recalls, “Commissioner Nelson and I worked closely on many projects while I was serving as sheriff. We had similar visions and ideas for making Waseca County a better place to call home for current residents and those we hope to attract and welcome to Waseca County.”
Milbrath invites voters to follow him on Facebook: bradmilbrathforwasecacounty.
