The Waseca Public Library’s Alice in Wonderland Party June 22 invited children to use their imaginations.

Wonderland for readers

Children’s librarian Brianna Bleaker welcomed 30 guests to another world of fun at the Waseca Public Library’s Alice in Wonderland party Thursday morning. The event was inspired by the 19th-century classic book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Caroll, which was famously adapted for the screen by Walt Disney Animation studios in 1951 (and received a live action remake in 2010). Children took part in a variety of Alice-themed activities, including stacking the Mad Hatter’s tea cups, playing the Queen of Hearts’ croquet game, and competing in a white-rabbit-inspired memory game. The kids also made their own Cheshire cat grins with pipe cleaners and colored paper. Another craft was a Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum inspired thaumatrope (an optical illusion, in which two discs with pictures on them spin into one design). Children and all community members can look forward to many other events at the Waseca Public library as the summer continues.
