Around 100 people attended the annual Catholic Daughters salad luncheon at Sacred Heart Church last Friday, June 23, to enjoy 10 different types of homemade salads for $10.
All the proceeds from the luncheon will go to the church and school along with local charities such as Bethlehem Inn in Waseca and Pregnancy Options in Faribault.
Members of the Catholic Daughters made all the salads in the Sacred Heart School kitchen. It is a three-day process, according to Deb Perreault, the co-chair of the Waseca branch of Catholic Daughters, which has 100 members and has been active for about 77 years. Group members start making the salads on Wednesday and continue on Thursday to be certain the wide variety of serving selections will be ready to serve by Friday. Perreault said even the cookies are homemade.
“We have fun while we’re doing it and that’s the best part,” Perreault said. “It’s a team effort; everyone just does great.”
According to Perreault and fellow organizer Pat Foley, the annual salad luncheon has been happening for about 30 years, with both of them in charge and working at it for about half of that.
As many people enjoyed the choices in salads, parish member Kevin Walter decided to try them all, saying that there’s “something about adding all the flavors mixed together.” He later decided he needed a bigger plate.
