End of 2022-23

Superintendent Eric Hudspith began the June 15 Waseca School Board meeting by addressing the end of the school year. Hudspith expressed his pleasure in seeing 140 students cross the stage at graduation to celebrate their time at Waseca Public Schools. “It’s very exciting for students to see themselves move out into the world. I’m looking forward to seeing what those Blue Jays do.”

Hudspith also introduced the financial update. “I’m very pleased with how that has shaken out,” Hudspith said. “When you think of efficient operations of a school district, one of our jobs is to provide the most effective, positive, robust programming we can for our students within the realm a public entity like ourselves can do with our budget.”
Business Manager Elizabeth Beery presented the 2023-2024 WPS budget to the board. Reminding board members that all districts in the state are required to have a budget in place by July 1, Beery presented a PowerPoint outlining the financial details. “We are presenting a balanced budget to you this evening of revenue exceeding expenditures,” Beery said, after going through a detailed explanation of fund totals. “It’s a very tight budget, but we were able to accomplish our goal of presenting a balanced budget to the school board.”  Beery also took a minute to say farewell to all. “This district has been amazing and I have been extremely blessed to be a part of it. Thank you for all the faith and trust you have put in me. I will always be a Blue Jay.”  Beery has been the business manager for more than 15 years; she submitted her resignation last winter as her family has moved out of the area.
Other items addressed included the progression of the strategic plan. Hudspith stated that all departments are in the process of creating next year’s vision cards which outline the desired daily experience of each learner. New vision cards should come to the board for review in July, as well as final data for assessment of the vision cards from the previous year.
