County leader, Nelson, dies suddenly
Mon, 06/26/2023 - 12:36pm
Waseca County Board of Commissioners chair Blair Nelson died of a sudden heart attack Tuesday night. Nelson was 65 years old, the father of three grown children, grandparent to many more, and happily married to Deanne. He served Waseca County as a commissioner since 2011, was co-owner of Waseca’s Remax Real Estate office with his brother Blaine, and a lifelong Waseca resident.
Senator John Jazinski posted his condolences on Facebook, saying that Nelson’s service to the public and his dedication to his family will both be missed.
Waseca Chamber of Commerce leader Ann Fitch posted similar sentiments, expressing gratitude for Nelson’s generous way of sharing “his handshakes and his kindness.”
Nelson’s daughter Taylor Nelson Ziembke posted the following on Facebook Wednesday morning.
“It is with a beyond heavy heart to admit our loving dad passed away unexpectedly from a massive heart attack last night. He was a husband, dad, papa, friend, community leader, role model, sports enthusiast both on and off the field and so much more. He had the kindest and most gentle heart and spirit. He was just an all around great guy and I was beyond blessed to call him my dad. We are so heartbroken. He touched the lives of many people. He will miss out on the retirement he looked forward to and worked so hard for, including growing old with my mom and all the plans they had together, as they approach their 40-year anniversary in November. He won’t be here to golf more this summer, swim with my babies, or enjoy the sunsets at the cabin. We are robbed, my kids, nieces and nephew don’t get to know their papa as they grow up, be in the stands of every activity. He was there for it all, and he will be so missed. We are at peace knowing he is up in heaven playing catch with his son, Tyler, who he missed dearly.”
Many messages of support were shared online the morning of Wednesday, May 31. A full obituary will follow in next week’s edition.
