FFA groups help with luncheon

Helping serve more than 200 people during the annual Farm and City Luncheon held March 16 at the Mill in Waseca were members of the Waseca and JWP Future Farmers of America organizations.
The students gave a brief presentation about the FFA License plate program during lunch.
Presenting, and serving, from the Waseca Chapter were:
Kloe Wadd, Addison Kelm, Bailey Hodgkins, and Ava Nolland.
Wadd, a senior, has been in FFA since seventh grade; Kelm, a sophomore, has been a member for four years; Hodgkins, a junior, for five years, and Nolland, a senior, has been an FFA member since eighth grade.
“To me, being a part of this FFA chapter is being involved in the agricultural community and advocating for agriculture,” Wadd said. “It is definitely fun. Honestly, this is probably my favorite event of the year. Not only do we get delicious food from the Pheasant each year, but we also get to communicate and talk with other agricultural experts and industry majors and people who are involved. And then we also get to represent those agricultural leaders.”
Nolland said her time in the Waseca FFA has taught her to be a better leader.
“There are so many opportunities in FFA to help people and give service to the community.”
Wadd said her future plans are related to agriculture. She plans to attend the University of Minnesota, Crookston and major in agribusiness/ag communications.
“I love wearing this blue jacket,” Kelm, a junior added. “I’m going to miss wearing it; I get one more year.”
Also assisting Thursday were JWP FFA members Cole Schlueter, Zach Groh and Sam Carlson.
All have been in FFA for three or four years since the chapter was re-established in 2019.
“I think it's really great to kind of show the world that our chapters exist,” Schlueter, a senior, said. “Janesville hadn’t had a chapter since the eighties. I think it's really good for our community, because we are an ag based community. It gets more kids involved in agricultural experiences.”
Schlueter credits Mrs. O, which he says is her nickname because, “no one can spell it” who helped start that chapter four years ago. Last year the chapter had about 30 members. This year it added more than a dozen students.
“We love serving people!” Groh, a junior, exclaimed.
“It was a good meal,” Carlson, the other senior, stated. “It was a great, great meal.”
