Waseca wrecking crew celebrates 30-year anniversary

The 1993 Bluejay Wrestling team - dubbed “The Wrecking Crew” - was acknowledged during a Feb. wrestling meet in Waseca. The team was considered young and not full of the “senior capacity” that other Waseca teams had before them. Despite this, they pulled off a 9-8 season with quality wrestlers at every weight “using their techniques to the best of their ability.”
Three members of the Bluejays team qualified for the state tournament and represented Waseca well, pulling off one of the best showings in Jays history. All three brought back medals; Joel O’Brien took second, Jon Summer took third, and Matt O’Brien took fourth.
Other members included Coach Meurer, the late Justin Below, Steve Berberich, Scott Christ, Dan Kuhns, Jeffrey Larson, Justin Manthe, Ben O’Brien, Wesley Ruedy, Peter Roessler, Nathan Rodriguez, Mark Staloch, Derrick Ward, and Steve Woltas.
