JWP snow week coronation 2023

Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton High School crowned its snow royalty during halftime of the boys’ basketball game against Maple River Tuesday, Feb. 14. It was a short and sweet coronation with Faith Olson crowned as queen and Michael VanRavenhorst becoming king. The other queen candidates were Adalynn Davis, Kylee Hanks, Paris Herme, and Ashlin Keyes. King candidates were Ian Barnes, Kelton Erler, Zachary Groh, and Ryder Thissen.

Groh, a student council representative, explained at JWP’s School Board meeting Monday, Feb. 13 that the other council members wanted to try it out for this year. “It should provide a better way for the parents to be able to come,” he told them.

Last year’s king and queen, Dylan Sheeran and Addison Oliver, had the honor of crowning Olson and VanRavenhorst. The student council, with the help of the Bulldog Backers, thought having the former royalty present was a great first step to try and bring back some of the traditions that had been in place for past homecoming and snow week celebrations.             Pioneer photo by Michael Roy
