Waseca’s “Treats on the Streets” was the gift that kept on giving for many trick-or-treaters Thursday, October 27. From 5-7 p.m., hundreds upon hundreds of costumed children lined the sidewalks of downtown Waseca to receive Halloween candy early from local businesses.
Within minutes, businesses received an overflow of trick-or-treaters with lines going out the door. Businesses like Keen Bank, Remax, American Family Insurance, and El Tequila handed out candy throughout the evening.
Many of the businesses, especially those downtown, had so many frequent visitors that they had to close up shop early. Remax had to close after barely an hour, even after having laid in about 600 pieces of candy. Not even half a dozen jumbo boxes of popcorn and animal crackers, along with bowls filled with candy were enough for American Family Insurance to stay open much more than an hour.
Both children and adults were creative with their costumes. Some dressed up like Minecraft characters while others dressed as Mario and Luigi. American Family Insurance agent Matt Petsinger dressed as a cowboy greeting people by the Remax door while Robert Tackett, as a ninja, escorted people out of the insurance building.
For those daring enough to venture away from downtown, there were many other businesses handing out bonus amounts of candy including Dairy Queen, Grace Lutheran Church, and the Good Game Gaming Center.
It was a great evening of fun for all involved with the kids getting an early stash of candy before Halloween rolled around a few days later.
