The first weekend of Faith United Methodist Church’s Autumn Fest Sale on Saturday, September 10 was a success. More than 15 volunteers including the “United Women in Faith” group coordinated the event which raises funds for church mission projects.
“The money is for a good cause,” says congregation member Robert Walker. “It helps a lot of people.” Walker mentioned mission trips and charities which assist women and children.
The four-hour sale featured dishes, furniture, antiques and other items donated by congregation members; all unsold offerings will be available again on September 17 for half the price. A particularly popular part of the event is the bake sale: “Sometimes people can’t be here or donate items so they bake,” member Sherry Scholljegeredes explains. “The first thing to go are the cookies.”
Homemade items included cookes, breads, cakes, muffins, and pies, all prepared by the church ladies.
“And I’d like to thank John Schultz for all his help setting up today,” Walker added.
Although church volunteers couldn’t pinpoint an exact number of attendees, they joked they wanted to count but lost track: the first weekend of the annual event raised at least several hundred dollars.
Next weekend, Saturday Sept. 17 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be the last day of the sale.
