
Waseca County Fair brings joy, fun

Representatives of veterans’ organizations from across the county stood at attention as flags were ;raised to provide the official opening of the Waseca County Fair the afternoon of Wednesday, July 9. About 75 people observed the ceremony, standing in the warm sun on a humid day.
Fair board member Mike Harguth announced the opening of “Summer’s Best Party,” and expressed thanks to fair sponsors, board members, vendors and the public. Based on the forecast, he suggested fairgoers should watch the organization’s Facebook page for any weather-related changes in the schedule.
The United States flag was raised by Lamar Kust, past commander of Legion Post 228, and Marine Vietnam veteran Jim Wilker, recipient of the Silver Star. The Prisoner of War/Missing in Action flag was raised by Floyd Herme and Kevin Dickie. Waseca County Sheriff Jay Dulas and Waseca City Police Chief Kris Markeson raised the Minnesota State flag.
After a rifle salute by the Waseca VFW rifle squad, Deb Wantoch Yess sang the national anthem accompanied by the Waseca High School Marching Jays. Taps were played by the Marching Jays’ director, Devon Lawrence.
