Waseca’s ExCEL and Triple ‘A’ winners

The following introductions were read allowed by Activities Director Joe Hedervare and Principal Millerby during Snow Week Coronation Feb. 16 honoring Waseca’s ExCEL Award winners and Triple ‘A’ Winners. 

Lucas Vasquez-Neigebauer. Lucas is the son of David and Kathryn Vasquez. In her letter of recommendation, Mrs. Nelson said this about Lucas: “Lucas’ peers have learned that they can expect consistency from him. He is always willing to help others, even when this infringes on his time. Lucas is highly organized and knows how to prioritize his responsibilities. He is a young man seeking leadership opportunities with the confidence and ability to achieve his goals.”

Additional information has come out recently that Lucas was named a statewide winner of the 2023 Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership (ExCEL) Award: he will be featured on MSHSL State Tournament broadcasts, social media, and during an on-court ceremony at the 2023 state girls’ basketball tournament.

The other ExCEL winner announced was Addison Wiesler, daughter of Patrick and Tania Wiesler. 

Dr. Miller introduced Wiesler. In her recommendation letter, Mrs. Nelson said, ‘“[Addy] is very respected by her peers and easily approachable. She does not seek attention or accolades, she simply does the job while encouraging and recruiting others to follow. Rarely have I met a more goal-oriented young person.”

Triple ‘A” Award Winners Christian Rodriguez and Cece Huttemier were also recognized. 

Hedervare introduced Rodriguez: Christian is the son of Nathan and Debra Rodriquez. Coach Wendland in his recommendation letter stated, “As a coach, when I think of Christian a couple traits really stand out. First of all, his mental and physical toughness is exceptional. Certainly among the best I have been around. Second of all, I think about how clearly unselfish he is. The team is always his priority. Finally, it needs to be mentioned that his level of commitment is nothing short of tremendous.”

Dr. Miller introduced Huttemier: Cece is the daughter of Kristi and John Huttemier. Mrs. Nelson described Cece by stating, “I can assure you, without reservation, that Cece has gone above and beyond in every aspect of leadership and achievement. She consistently does the right thing even when no one is watching. As an educator for 30 years, I can attest to the fact that Cece’s commitment to academics, arts, and activities is second to none. She pursues everything she does with maximum effort and optimism. Her winning attitude and ability to adapt and adjust are impressive.”
