Waldorf City Council looks at future projects

At the Waldorf city council meeting the evening of Monday, June 9, Mayor Rob Wilkening presented the “City of Waldorf Phase 2 Project” listing 11 different city projects for a total cost of about $8.4 million. He suggested that by listing and prioritizing the projects, which include street and utility improvements, the city could begin the process of applying for funding support from state and federal agencies. He added that having projects on the list does not obligate the city to follow through with them.

The city is accepting applications through June 23 for someone to perform cleaning tasks at the Waldorf Community Center; interested persons can visit the city website. Maintenance requested 10 plastic covers for the sewers; each cover is $75.

Mike Koepp of PCI Roads, a construction company out of St. Michael, Minnesota, asked whether his company could receive a reduced rate for water being used in nearby road work. Koepp requested a price of $25 per thousand gallons, rather than the $35 it has been paying. He said PCI Roads has already used about 100,000 gallons, and expects to use another 100,000 before finishing its project around July 31.

Council members voted to begin using a new bookkeeping and payroll system which, it is believed, will simplify local processes while also making it easier to submit reports to the State Records Disposition Panel.

There were 10 no pays for water and 12 partial pays and six people have received shut off notices. Mayor Wilkening expressed concern about the increasing number of people unable to pay and stated he would like to remind people there are resources available.

The price of stamps is going up July 1 to 78 cents; the council decided to buy 20 rolls in advance to save money. Waldorf uses around one roll per month.

The bathroom remodel in the community center will cost more than $1,500, the total amount is not yet known but the modified cost was approved.
