A touch of country

Shoppers from near and far enjoyed an antique and craft show at A Touch of Country Class Boutique in Waseca the weekend of May 20 and 21.
The show, an annual tradition since 1989, is owned and operated by Delores Boerigter of Iowa. She sends out her “crafter letters” about three months in advance, recruiting local sellers of homemade crafts, folk art, and antiques. Boerigter estimates that 125 consigners took part in the recent show.
Boerigter was inspired to start A Touch of Country Class Boutique when she went to a similar show 35 years ago and thought “I could do that.” Since the first show over 30 years ago, Boerigter says the boutique has grown into a larger event, which brings a lot of business to the Waseca community at large.
Boerigter claims to be more of a businesswoman than a crafter, but has a few items for sale this year. Her personal favorite items are the antiques due to their “unusualness” and high build quality.
Boerigter does not consider running A Touch of Country Class Boutique to be challenging because she enjoys her work and has a cohort of “loyal employees.”
Cindy Kolander, one of this year's consignors, said that she is proud to be part of such an “ongoing big event in Waseca.”
A Touch of Country Class Boutique will be reopening for the last time of its Spring season from May 25-29. The show’s fall dates will be September 14-17 and 21-24.
