Talent at TEAM

TEAM Academy holds talent show
Sixth-graders Jude Adams and Wyatt Partain served as emcees for TEAM Academy’s school-wide Talent Show the afternoon of January 27. It takes a lot of courage to showcase one’s talents in front of peers and family members, yet all twelve acts did just that.
Joseph Stencel wowed the audience with a magic trick. He had four pre-written cards crumpled on a desk in front of him, and asked TEAM paraprofessional Ashley Conley, in the role of assistant, to answer a series of questions. He then revealed his own cards, showing that he'd “read her mind,”: All four answers were correct.
The first-grade class opened the show together, doing the “Wiggle Dance.” Class members wiggled and danced together as the music called for different moves – until the track asked “Can you wiggle your eyebrows?”, to which several students shook their heads “no.” A smaller section of the first-grade class – Maridia McGuire, Georgia Courtney, Anthony Pickett, Ridley Pechacek, and Laney and Lacey Hertzog – performed to a second song, the Kidz Bop edition of “Whoomp, There It Is.” Rounding out the dancers, fifth-grader Lexi Hanson performed a lyrical ballet dance of her own creation to the song “Lovely” by Billie Eilish and Khalid. Hanson dances at Just For Kicks in Waterville, where she recently had a recital.
There were four sets of singers in the show. Jemsslie Rugger and Daleyza Castillo sang “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” from Disney's Frozen; Keira Holmgren, RJ Attenberger, and Miia Caballero sung a do-wap “Scooby Doo”; Kaylee Mondahl of Kindergarten sang a solo performance of “Meant to Be” by Bebe Rexhe and Florida Georgia Line. The sixth-grade class closed the show singing “The Duck Song,” a goofy number about a duck in a corner store.
Solo instrumentalists made up four of the entries. Keira Holmgren, fifth grade, played a piece by Bach on her clarinet; Wanli Chen of fourth grade played “Ancient Nations” on piano; Lucas Negrete, third grade, played “Waltz Time” on piano; and Tennysen Rugger of fifth grade played “Hot Cross Buns” on trumpet. At the end of the show, Adams, a trumpeter himself, went off-script as emcee to tell the audience, “I cannot play the trumpet like that,” in response to Rugger's performance.
