NRHEG Special education receives $1,000 to purchase books
NRHEG High School received a grant for $1,000 to purchase novels for the special education department's English program taught by Melissa Dunn, who accepted the award during the Waseca Area Foundation’s annual awards program November 9, 2022. Some of the students in this 9-12 program remain in special education classes for that entire time. So, according to Dunn, the curriculum has to change and evolve; these funds help purchase new books for students. “I want students to leave school not hating to read,” Dunn emphasized. “There’s so much good literature out there. I’m just trying to get it in their hands… By the time they leave my room, many of them leave saying, it's not so bad after all!”
