Luncheon provides fellowship

Around 60 people from various Waseca churches gathered for a soup luncheon at the Waseca Christian Assembly Wednesday, February 8.
Pastor Brad Wickersheim welcomed everyone, made a few announcements and led the prayer before the meal. He informed all in attendance that the soup choices were chili and a chicken noodle soup called “the kitchen sink.” “That’s what I was told to tell you,” he joked. Carol Ann made both soups for the luncheon.
Along with the soup was an assortment of dessert bars, lemonade, and coffee. After eating lunch, Pastor Wickersheim offered a devotion and the congregation sang a few hymns.
“We usually start with a luncheon in January,” Wickersheim explained. “That’s around the time when we get ready to observe the six weeks of lent. We then try to gather for more activities throughout the year, usually monthly.”
All of the churches around Waseca try to pitch in by each hosting an event as the year continues. “For example, Faith Methodist Church is another spot we usually gather,” he said. “There will be times when a few of the churches will be too small to host an event; iIn those cases, they ask to host an event at one of the bigger churches.”
The luncheons are a great way for many people throughout the Waseca community to socialize. “We typically get around 50 to 60 people per event,” Wickersheim said. “It’s always a fun time, and the food is really good.”
