Waseca’s annual 4th of July “Lakefest” celebration featured musical acts ranging from local to national. Although rain and thunderstorms early in the day threatened the afternoon of festivities, the weather turned just in time for things to stay on schedule.
The lineup of acts began at 3 p.m. and continued until dusk. Kicking things off was Pete Klug, a country blues artist based out of Eagle Lake. Next up at 4 p.m. was Miller-Denn, an acoustic duo which includes Muriah Miller and Mark Denn.
Waseca local Tex Mex blues band Los Tequileros turned up the heat at 5 p.m. and played covers of classics like the Beatles’ “Love Me Do.” Shortly after their set, Luke LeBlanc cooled things down with some easy-listening folk, playing originals like “Same Blues” beginning at 6:30.
The music ended with headlining country folk musician Erik Koskinen taking the stage at 7:30. Originally from Fort Collins, CO, Koskinen has released four studio albums and a live album. His music video “Big Plane” features Amelia Fleetwood, daughter of Fleetwood Mac Drummer Mick Fleetwood.
Aside from all the music, Lakefest also featured arts and crafts, games and physical challenges, and fireworks on Clear Lake at dusk. Perhaps the only “missing” feature was the children’s playground equipment, which was not available because of construction and improvement projects.
Waseca County History Center and the Waseca Art Center planned this year’s Lakefest. The event was made possible by a grant from the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council. The Waseca Area Foundation also assisted with funding.
