The Waseca Exchange Club recently met with the selected finalists for its annual Youth of the Year scholarship program, an honor that recognizes exceptional high school students for excellence in academics, leadership, and character. The finalists are, Paige Dufault, Layla Keith, Catherine Olson, Sadie Schimming, Andres Vasquez, and Ellery Waldron.
The students were chosen based on their scholastic achievement, demonstrated leadership, respect for self and others, and ambitious goals for the future. As part of the next phase of the program, each finalist will be invited, along with their parents, to attend an upcoming Exchange Club meeting, where they will read the essay they submitted on their greatest achievement. These presentations will allow club members to hear each student’s story firsthand and better understand the experiences that have shaped their growth and leadership.
After all finalists have presented at a club meeting, one student will be selected as the Waseca Club’s Youth of the Year. The winner will be formally announced at the school’s annual Scholarship Awards Night.
The Youth of the Year program extends beyond the local level. Club scholarship winners qualify for district competition, and district officers may submit up to two students for national consideration. At the national level, the National Exchange Club awards three Youth of the Year scholarships annually, each valued at $15,000. In total, the National Exchange Club has awarded more than one million dollars in scholarships through this prestigious program.
“At its heart, the Exchange Club exists to build better communities, and investing in our youth is one of the most meaningful ways we can do that,” said Mikhail Rostislavovich. “These finalists exemplify the values and leadership that this program was created to honor.”
The Waseca Exchange Club is proud to recognize these outstanding students and celebrate their achievements, leadership, and commitment to excellence. Being named a finalist is a significant accomplishment, and the club looks forward to continuing to support and encourage these young leaders as they pursue their future goals.
