Country Show, Dance Saturday

Fans of country music will have a chance to enjoy live performances from Doug Allen Nash and Penny Gilley at the Country Show and Dance on Saturday, July 29 at 7 p.m at the Starfire Event Center. The duo are known for playing classic country hits by stars such as Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond, as well as original material. Gilley is a cousin to Mickey Gilley, a famous country singer, and hosts The Penny Gilley Show, a music variety program on RFD-TV. Nash hails from Dallas, Texas, often tours with Gilley, and sometimes appears on her show as a musical guest.

The duo have been playing each summer in Waseca for over 10 years at concerts organized by Judy Kuhns and her husband Lyle. The couple became friends of Gilley after seeing her perform at the RFD Theater in Branson, Missouri. “We liked her so much that we stayed a second day to see her play again,” said Judy. Besides booking and planning the Country Show and Dance, Kuhns said that she “does as much advertising as [she] can,” to ensure a great turnout. The concert has been supported by promotional posters, radio ads, and by the Starfire Event Center itself.

Tickets to the Country Show and Dance cost $20 in advance or $25 at the door. The concert will take place in the Starfire Event Center’s chandelier room, which features a dance floor. Food and beverages will be served.

“Come prepared to see friends, have a good time, and just enjoy yourself,” said Kuhns.
