Circus Manduhai dazzles at library

Circus Manduhai performed at the Waseca Public Library on Thursday, June 12 to the applause of nearly 40 children in attendance and the adults who brought them. Despite the small area, these Mongolian-style performers incorporated juggling, acro-balancing, contortion, unicycling, and hula hooping into a spectacular show for all ages.

Chimgee Haltarhuu, founder of Circus Manduhai told the audience members, “Don’t be afraid to take pictures; that’s what we’re here for.” Halterhuu proceeded to twirl a baton, unroll flags, juggle hula hoops, and even rotate and flip a giant silver cylinder using only her feet. She could also twirl a giant red cloth with her toes.

Up next was unicyclist and master juggler Tamir Bayarsaihan, who was kind enough to take children up on stage to give them a crash course in juggling. Gabby Gahler, accompanied by her dad Korey, was taken up front and handed soft balls filled with sand. Said Gahler, “I was a little nervous at first, but I think I can juggle now.” Henry Ireland was with his little sister Hanna and his mom Kayla, “I juggled some white balls, I don’t know if I could do it again, but I will try.”

Next to perform was Lana Umbaakhuu, who exhibited remarkable upper and lower body strength by holding herself up on one hand and performing other feats of strength and balance, frequently making the nearly impossible look easy.

Last but certainly not least was the fourth member of the group, Vincent Geruntho, a 28-year-old from the Cities, who mentioned, “I’ve gotten to travel for this, and I absolutely love it.” Unicycling in a small space like the library is no easy feat, but Geruntho made it look effortless.

Mission Manduhai is named after the great Mongolian Queen Manduhai. Manduhai is known for her bravery, intelligence and perseverance. Mission Manduhai was founded in 2010 by circus artist Chimgee Haltarhuu.
