Children's Choir warms up for Fall Festival

The Sacred Heart Fall Festival will be taking place Sept. 19, 20 and 21. Organizers say it is a chance to enjoy the fall outdoors, eat, celebrate, worship, and shop. The event will include a concession stand, fish fry, bingo, raffles, children’s games, spirit wall, silent auction and much more.

The main mass for the Fall Festival will be the Festival Children’s Choir Mass set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.

To help the children’s choir prepare, director Marlys Froehle decorated the floor of the choir room with a circle of baseball-sized, multi-colored dots. Prior to a practice the afternoon of Sept. 10, she told about preparations in progress. “This will be our first practice starting tonight. At Sacred Heart school our grades only go up to fourth grade; the choir students with me today are from all grades 1-4.”

Elaina Berg was the first little lady to show up for choir, a third-grader who was asked about her favorite song in church. She replied, “I like the song, In the Breaking of the Bread.” She was told to find one of the dots on the floor and wait for others to arrive, which she did.

Froehle continued, “Our children’s choir sings once a month in church. I work for the church, not the school, but I help out over here all the time.” Amelia Kummerfeldt, a second-grader, was the next choir member to arrive. She was asked about her favorite church song and replied, “I love them all so much.” Total numbers for children practicing with the choir that day were were four first-graders, two second-graders, six third-graders and two fourth-graders. Said Froehle, “To be ready for church on Saturday night on the twentieth, we will have to make a few cuts to get the choir down to six or seven students.” She was optimistic because, “I’ve worked with some of these kids for two or more years, I’m really looking forward to Saturday night.”

Some of the songs on the roster for the Festival Children’s Choir Mass will be “Come, Now is the Time,” “Praise the Lord, O My Soul,” and “The Cry of the Poor.” The Sacred Heart Fall Festival is open for anyone to attend. The Festival Children’s Choir Mass will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, and in the words of Pastor Glenn Frerichs, “You don’t have to be a Catholic to attend!”
