The Waseca Ace Hardware store celebrated two “appreciations” in one on Friday, August 5: Departing manager Cam Swanson was honored for his four years of service, and store customers were thanked for their patronage and loyalty. Food catered by Morgan’s Meat Market was served from 10 to 2 p.m.. “Bucket deals” were offered, and representatives from Benjamin Moore, Big Green Egg, TORO, and STIHL were available for consultation.
“The customer appreciation was a long time coming, but with Covid we weren’t able to do it,” explained Ace employee Andy Waugh, who is slated to move into the manager position.
Swanson moved to Waseca four years ago to manage the Ace Hardware store, and is departing now because of some opportunities which have become available to him. He will be moving to the Cities at the end of August, leaving his 11-year career in hardware behind. “It’s a bummer for sure,” said Swanson, “I’m a small town guy, and I have a lot of friends here.”
Swanson believes customers will barely notice the change in leadership at the store. Although small managerial details may be altered, the business will remain “the same old Waseca Ace Hardware.” As Waugh prepares to step into the manager position, he says his focus will be on assuring customers’ needs are served. “It’s fun to see the community support we have,” Waugh says. “Thanks to the loyal customers, staff, and everyone who made this day possible.”
