The “Best Thai Cuisine” restaurant at 115 North Main Street in Janesville has been in operation only since June 20. Already, though, those who work there are deeply impressed by the public’s attention and the positive support they’ve received.
The restaurant’s website claims, “we serve fresh, flavorful dishes made with traditional recipes and bold spices,” and goes on to say, “We’re passionate about bringing the perfect balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavors to your plate.”
Inside, everything still seems brand new. The menus have that newly-printed sheen, the floors look like no one has walked on them, the tables sparkle and shine.. The owner of Best Thai Cuisine, Jeremiah Gwa, wasn’t there on Thursday, July 24, but his brother, Daniel Lisu, who works in the kitchen, was. Lisu stepped away from his tasks to talk for a few minutes.
He’s had a lot of kitchen work experience, first in St. Paul at Mela Thai, then in Buffalo, Minn., at Grace Thai. Lisu acknowledges he has a rather long commute: “Right now, it’s back and forth every day to St. Paul, but we finally just found a house in town we can rent, and that will make everything a lot easier.” That evening there were four tables full at 4:45 p.m., as he spoke another two groups of four walked in and took seats. There was another cook in the kitchen, but he wasn’t overwhelmed just yet.
Lisu says he Gwa have had some pleasant revelations. “Pretty much so far we didn’t think a lot of people would come here, but they have every day, and not just from Janesville. A lot of people have been driving over from Mankato” He said he found it impressive that, even with the many dining options available to the west, people were choosing to drive to Janesville.
“That’s so great,” he went on, saying it would be expected to take some time to build a customer base. “We were pretty surprised. On our grand opening we were out of some stock for three days; we had to close at 6:30 p.m. for a few nights and turn people away because we were out of food. “ It was like that for the first three weeks. All of us had no time to eat lunch every day, it was that busy.”
The Best Thai Cuisine’s menu is available at www.besthaimn.com. Otherwise, they are still the newest restaurant in Janesville and are open for business!
